An FIR has been registered against Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor, along with party leaders Manish Kashyap, spokesperson Vivek, state president Manoj Bharti, and approximately 2,000 unidentified individuals following a protest outside the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The charges have been filed under sections 191(2), 190, 132, and 223, relating to clashes with police and violation of restricted prohibitory orders.
The protest, held on July 23, escalated after police allegedly used force against demonstrators, injuring a young party supporter. In response, Prashant Kishor issued a stern warning to the Bihar government, threatening widespread disruption of state functioning if their demands remained unaddressed.
“If you have hit an unarmed man of Suraaj with a stick, I’m sitting right here… We will make it difficult for the government to function in the whole of Bihar,” said Kishor during the protest, challenging police presence in the restricted zone.
He demanded a written assurance from the Chief Secretary on resolving the issues raised by Jan Suraaj, confirming that five senior leaders of the party were in talks with state officials at the time.
The confrontation broke out when Jan Suraaj supporters attempted to march towards the Assembly but were stopped by police barricades, leading to a brief scuffle and rising tensions.
Kishor also accused the state government of neglecting the condition of over 50 lakh children allegedly working as labourers across Bihar. “The government is not even paying attention… If we have to wake them up, then we need to take to the streets,” he said.
The protest highlights growing friction between the Jan Suraaj movement and the Bihar administration as the party ramps up its campaign on issues of governance and social justice.
